We are a Lowcountry nonprofit built on years of guiding birders through the marshes, forests and beaches of Beaufort County.
Our Story
From a tour company to a nonprofit
Lowcountry Birding Center was founded by Jenn and John Clementoni, SC Lowcountry Master Naturalists who call the Lowcountry home.
In 2022 they launched Birding Beaufort, a guided bird tour company that led more than 200 tours in two years and was named Best Guided Tour by Lowcountry’s Best two years in a row. Guests came from as far away as California, New Zealand, Iowa, Montana, Wisconsin and Florida — and many still keep in touch.
The Center grows out of that experience: a nonprofit dedicated to sharing the birds of the Lowcountry with everyone, and protecting the places they need to survive.
Our Approach
Birding should feel welcoming, not intimidating. You don’t need to know every bird to belong here — you just need to be curious.
Keep it simple
Our programs are built for people who want to enjoy birds, not pass a test. Beginners and seasoned birders are equally at home.
Close to home
We focus on Beaufort and the Sea Islands North of the Broad, so walks and events are easy to get to — day or evening.
Better together
We welcome partnerships with other conservation and community organizations that share our love of Lowcountry birds.

Meet the team
Jenn Clementoni
Executive Director
An SC Lowcountry Master Naturalist and wildlife photographer whose images fill this site. Jenn previously served as Vice President of the Friends of Cypress Wetlands, where she led free tours and ran social media, and she has organized events including an evening with renowned author and illustrator David Sibley. Before birds, she spent her career as an executive assistant to C-level executives in the pharmaceutical and consumer products industries.
John Clementoni
Co-Founder
An SC Lowcountry Master Naturalist and co-founder of Birding Beaufort. John brings a career as a marketing executive with multiple life insurance companies to building the Center’s community of supporters.

Our nonprofit status
Lowcountry Birding Center, Inc. is a South Carolina nonprofit corporation, registered with the South Carolina Secretary of State as a charitable organization. Our application for federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status has been filed with the IRS. Our EIN is 42-5186280.
