Lowcountry Birding Center · Beaufort County, SC
Every bird has a story worth protecting.
We help people of every age and experience level discover the birds of South Carolina’s Lowcountry — and the marshes, maritime forests and beaches they can’t live without.

Our Mission
To educate, create community engagement and inspire a greater appreciation for birds and the importance of protecting their habitat.
Educate
Bird walks, talks and school outings that make birds approachable — and show how each of us can help them thrive.
Engage
Tours, events and a welcoming birding community for newcomers and lifelong birders alike. No life list required.
Inspire
Real-time photography of the birds being seen right here, right now, from our Executive Director, Jenn Clementoni.
Why the Lowcountry
A crossroads for birds on the Atlantic Flyway
~300
bird species call our area home or pass through it each year — and the count keeps growing.
½
of South Carolina’s salt marsh lies in Beaufort and Jasper Counties. Our state has more salt marsh than anywhere else on the East Coast.
19,000
miles — the round-trip migration of the Red Knot, which depends on our beaches to refuel along the way.
Programs & Tours
Ways to get outside with us

Bird Walks & Tours
Small-group outings led by Master Naturalists who know where the birds are — and love sharing them.

Senior Songbirds
Bringing the joy of birds to residents of assisted living communities through photos, sounds and stories.

Birding With Our Heroes
Restorative outings for first responders, military members, teachers and their families.

Share the Shore
Small choices, big difference
Wilson’s Plovers, Least Terns and American Oystercatchers raise their young right on our beaches. Giving them space, keeping dogs on leash and waiting until March to trim palmetto berries are simple ways anyone can help.
Our Vision
A place for birds — and birders — for generations to come
As development accelerates, there are fewer and fewer places where the public can simply go and watch birds. Our long-term goal is to secure and permanently protect land North of the Broad and create a simple, welcoming place for birders and guests.
